In other words, Taric needs enchanter items to be strong, but also loses to enchanters. Taric is actually incredibly similar to pre-rework Janna in the way that he relies on the items of a class of champions he is bad against to be good. However, he loses equally as hard against enchanters Soraka, Janna, Sona, and Lulu all some of his worst matchups. Taric tends to win really really hard against tank supports Braum, Thresh, Galio, and Alistar are all some of his best matchups. As far as I know, this is the single most polarizing matchup chart of any champion. In his best matchups he can often times reach a winrate of over 60%, but in his worst matchups, he can go lower than 40%.
Taric's problems really start when you look at his overall match-up spread. A lot of his power comes from being the ultimate anti-engage. He works REALLY well in a few niches, but cannot function in any way with the wrong team or when he's against the wrong team comp. Taric feels like a champion who was designed for Overwatch. This may be a bit of a read (we'll see how much I have to say), but trust me, everything is worth listening to. So, as I have done before, I'd like to delve into what makes the Shield of Targon such an unpopular and clunky champion. He's never been popular and most of his notability comes from funneling strategies such as Taric/Yi, but also some less popular duo stats like Taric/Sona, and Taric/Lillia. He's always been a very unpopular support champion, usually with a pickrate of around ~2%. Taric is the Illaoi of supports: Enemies have to be stupid to let him win.
